Top Findings:

  • Among all adults, 50 percent agree that college has a positive effect on the U.S., which is down from 63 percent in 2015. Only 33 percent of those who are Republican or lean Republican believe that college has a positive effect on the U.S., while 67 percent of those who identify as Democrats or lean Democrat believe that college has a positive effect on America.
  • Since 2012, the number of Republicans who have a negative view on college has increased from 35 percent to 59 percent.
  • Democratic support has been relatively stable over the past 7 years, hovering around 67 percent.
