Partnered with: Housing leaders within the City of Tucson and Pima County, Arizona on the development of FEAT.
The City of Tucson and Pima County have been battling skyrocketing rents and high eviction rates well before partnering on FEAT. Unlike other cities and counties, however, Tuscon and Pima County already had access to comprehensive eviction data, and had a team of local leaders committed to leveraging that data to address housing loss. However, cleaning and formatting eviction data is time consuming and resource intensive, and was a big barrier to regularly incorporating this analysis into decision-making.
“This tool is very, very helpful as an additional resource to make [looking at data spatially] much more achievable and to open up pathways to work on eviction prevention.” – Sarah Launius, City of Tucson
But FEAT’s data standardization and geocoding capabilities automates much of this work, and allows city leaders to conduct spatial analysis much more efficiently. Sarah Launius, Tuscon’s Program Director for Community Safety, Health and Wellness, shared that the ability to identify neighborhoods with high eviction rates using FEAT led to eviction prevention resource fairs in certain neighborhoods across the city with high eviction rates, and allowed for approaches that matched resources with unique community needs.
