In his report, Garcia covers cybersecurity vulnerabilities of hardware and software of devices used to access the metaverse, such as the recently released Meta Quest 3. The geopolitical risks of the U.S. failing to proactively safeguard these devices are profound, as states like China have moved to signal intentions to lead and shape policies around the metaverse. While federal offices, like DARPA, have moved to initiate programs to combat these new threats, more must be done to proactively safeguard the the nation and its people.
