[ONLINE] - What Has Been the Cost to Civilians of the ‘Forever Wars’?

From drone strikes to terrorist attacks, civilians have been at the heart of casualties in all of the Forever Wars.

The U.S. war in Afghanistan has been dubbed “one of the least transparent wars in recent U.S. history.” and the human cost has largely been placed on the shoulders of Afghan civilians.

While the majority of attention in Afghanistan remains on Kabul — the capital city harboring an airport where thousands have swarmed over the past week in an attempt to flee — three quarters of the country is rural, and civilian casualties in rural areas have gone largely underreported. One survey showed the average family in Afghanistan has lost 10 to 12 family members over the 20-year war, a disturbing statistic that illustrates a broad point many experts are trying to make: There is no clean war, and civilians will always pay the price.

Join us for a discussion with leading experts for an analysis on how U.S. military presence in Afghanistan has had harrowing implications for civilians.
