What is the Millennial Public Policy Fellowship?
The Millennial Public Policy Fellowship is a competitive and paid fellowship that will select 10 young adults from diverse backgrounds who are capable of contributing to future public policy discussions. Fellows will work with New America staff to conduct policy research and work with their cohort to develop ideas to address the most challenging issues facing their generation.
Is this a paid fellowship and are there employee benefits?
Yes. Fellows will receive a monthly salary of $3,333 and will be offered health insurance benefits. This income is subject to tax deductions and other withholdings as required by law.
What policy issues are covered by the fellowship?
As an organization, New America pursues work related to the most important global and domestic issues of our time. Specific areas of focus include social and family policy, political reform, education, environmental, and technology policy.
We invite you to read more about New America and the work of the policy programs participating in this fellowship opportunity, which include the Family-Centered Social Policy initiative, Education Policy program, Political Reform program, Open Technology Institute, Cybersecurity Initiative, and Resource Security program.
If selected, what will be my responsibilities?
Selected candidates will engage in policy research activities under the supervision of policy program staff. They will be expected to add value to the work of their assigned program, execute a project in a related policy area, and engage with their cohort and other members of the organization to consider policy ideas to address challenges faced by the Millennial generation. The cohort of fellows will work with colleagues to organize a policy research symposium in spring of 2018 to share their work and engage with thought leaders, policymakers, influencers, and peers.
The time commitment required will be equivalent to a full-time job and fellows will be expected to work during normal business hours.

The participating programs listed in the FAQ are different from the areas of interest we are asked to select in the application, is this intentional?
Yes. The programs listed in the FAQ are the New America programs participating in the fellowship. The areas of interest listed in the application are meant to be a bit broader. We want to give you all a chance to explain your policy interests without feeling hemmed in by the work programs are currently doing. Should you make it to the interview stage, we will send your application to the program we believe is most suited to your stated interests.
