Washington, DC — New America is pleased to announce the promotion of Barry C. Howard to the position of Chief Operating Officer. As COO, Mr. Howard will oversee all financial and operational facets of the organization’s business model and supervise additional program areas.
Since joining New America in 2017, Howard has played an instrumental role as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer—from implementing a fully integrated enterprise resource-planning platform, which allowed New America to transition seamlessly to remote and hybrid work during the onset of the pandemic, to his leadership (with Cecilia Muñoz) on the organization’s equity transformation initiative. Howard continues to partner closely with President and Chief Transformation Officer Paul E. Butler to advance New America’s equity work.
Howard credits the health of the organization’s financial and operational infrastructure to his team. “I have never worked with a more talented group of colleagues,” Howard said. “That may sound like rhetoric, but I mean it. We are committed to one another, and when one of us wins, all of us win. They have my gratitude.”
“I am delighted to elevate Barry to this new role,” said New America President and Chief Transformation Officer Paul E. Butler. “Barry has been a strategic leader and trusted partner across the organization, and he will be a key driver in growing the organization and advancing our mission in the years to come.”
Howard holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Regis University, where he graduated summa cum laude, and an M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins University.
