Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes
A Social Cinema Screening
Event

“I thought that things would be different after he was gone, but he casts such a long shadow that his vision can actually go on without him.”
--Alisyn Camerota, CNN anchor, former co-host, Fox and Friends
Roger Ailes has been called a political kingmaker, an evil genius, and one of the most consequential figures in our cultural history. As early as 1968, as an assistant producer of the Mike Douglas Show, he understood that television would have the power to change the US political landscape. He went on to build a media empire that would become the dominant force in American conservative politics and would help elect three presidents.
In Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes, winner of the 2018 Hamptons International Film Festival Best Documentary Award, Director Alexis Bloom and Executive Producer Alex Gibney create a rich portrait of this modern-day Citizen Kane, following his rise and downfall as the powerful Chairman and CEO of Fox News. Narrated with insight and candor by both his close colleagues and adversaries, the film reveals Ailes as a pivotal media strategist who deployed fear and outrage to polarize a nation and ended his days tragically in a state of paranoia and disgrace.
Join New America NYC and New York Women in Film & Television at Betaworks Studios for a preview screening and conversation that looks at the legacy of Roger Ailes and asks if the new American political reality he helped to create is here to stay.
