Ashley Álvarez is an advocate and storyteller. Her work lies at the intersection of celebrating community stories while exploring policies that promote economic, education, and racial justice. She has a growing range of experience in California-based and national government and nonprofit roles. She previously served under the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Early Learning at the US Department of Education, and as a congressional intern at the US House of Representatives. She has authored and contributed to articles, policy briefs, and reports on the child care and K-12 public education systems.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Álvarez is currently earning her MEd in Education Policy and Analysis with a concentration in Early Childhood at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She earned her BA in Sociology and Educational Studies from Harvard College.
