Chanwool (Chan) Leem is a Master's in Cybersecurity Policy at Stanford University's Ford Dorsey Maseter's in International Policy program. Leem has served as a career foreign service officer for South Korea, covering a range of foreign policy topics including traditional and emerging security issues such Korea-United States Mutual Defense Treaty, Korea-NATO cooperation, and elaboration of international norms and rules on cyberspace. During this time, he served as South Korea's alternate representatitve to the international cybersecurity discussions including the UN Open-ended Working Group on ICTs Security & UN Ad-Hoc Committee on Cybercrime Convention.
Leem's current research focuses on adapting traditional security policy instruments—including the application of mutual defense treaties to cyberspace—to the rapidly evolving digital environment. By examining the intersection of established security mechanisms and new technological challenges, he aims to contribute to more resilient, well-aligned policies that bridge critical gaps in cyber governance frameworks.
