Dwayne Curry joined the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) as a program officer in 2019. Through his work he strives to ensure that all families, no matter their background, have access to the resources they need to raise thriving children. He aims to elevate parent voices as critical contributors to decision-making processes for change. He is a passionate advocate for equity and views his role at RWJF as “an opportunity to help build a national Culture of Health that is inclusive of all people and unique to each community.”
Curry comes to RWJF from Rutgers University, where he previously served in multiple strategic leadership roles in New Jersey for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). He spearheaded five statewide initiatives that helped more than 50,000 families from low-income communities increase their access to healthy foods and learn how to eat well on a budget. Curry also directed policy, systems, and environmental change efforts for more than 35 program coordinators, regional supervisors, and health educators in all New Jersey counties. Previously, he served as youth development director for the YMCA of Newark and Vicinity and led projects that focused on reducing childhood obesity. Earlier, he served as a program manager for EXOS Human Capital, where he developed and implemented workplace health and wellness initiatives.
Curry earned a Masters of Education degree in adult and continuing education and a BS in exercise science from Rutgers University. His faith, passion for learning, and belief in the power of words ignites his desire to elevate matters dear to his heart through spoken word poetry. A lifelong advocate of an active and healthy lifestyle, he also competes in the centuries-old sport of Muay Thai boxing. Born and raised in Newark, N.J., he now resides in North Brunswick, N.J., with his wife, Jessica, and their blended family of four children.
