Fahim Abed

Afghanistan Observatory Scholar

Fahim Abed is a former Afghanistan Observatory Scholar at New America. He is a former reporter for the New York Times based in Kabul, Afghanistan. Prior to joining the New York Times in 2016, he worked as a producer and reporter with Anadolu Agency, a Turkish state news agency, BBC World Service, and various local outlets in Afghanistan. He is a graduate of Kabul University and a 2019 alumni of the East West Center's fellowship program. When he is not reporting, he loves to read books.

Abed’s project with the Afghanistan Observatory is about the role of corruption in the collapse of the former Afghan government and its security forces. He explores how the massive corruption paralyzed the whole government and security forces.
