Jie Zhang was research analyst of Ranking Digital Rights (RDR), with a focus on conducting researches of China’s tech companies ranked by RDR and relevant regulatory policies and laws. Prior to joining RDR, she worked as an analyst monitoring China’s fintech sector and wrote about Chinese tech giants and regulatory issues in TMT sector. Zhang previously reported for the Washington Post Beijing Bureau from 2006 to 2014, covering news ranging from China’s macro-economy, the private sector and state-owned enterprises, U.S.-China relationship to elite politics, environmental protection and human rights issues. She is especially interested in the impact of advanced technologies on social and political changes.
Zhang graduated from Harvard Kennedy School with a master's degree in public administration in 2018. She also holds a master's degree in international relations from China Foreign Affairs University. Zhang is a graduate from the Johns Hopkins University-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies too.
