JoeBill Muñoz

JoeBill Muñoz, National Fellow, is an independent Mexican-American filmmaker, currently directing and producing a feature documentary about solitary confinement in California prisons. His work has been supported by the Sundance Documentary Fund, Firelight Media, ITVS, and others. ​As a producer, he most recently worked on The Circus (Showtime), The New York Times Presents (Hulu), and The Grab (TIFF 2022), a feature documentary directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite in collaboration with Reveal at the Center for Investigative Reporting and Impact Partners.

Selected Work

  • Maletero: A short documentary film for PBS about a porter (“maletero”) who drives more than 1,000 miles a month to deliver goods between families separated by the U.S.-Mexico border.
  • The Grab: A feature documentary for Reveal News about an investigative journalist who uncovers covert efforts to control the most vital resource on the planet.
  • Kids Caught in the Crackdown: A short documentary film for PBS about the children impacted by President Trumpʼs immigration policies.
