María Angel is a Legal/Public Policy Intern at New America’s Open Technology Institute, where she researches and writes on electronic surveillance and tech privacy issues. Angel is a Fulbright grantee, currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Law at the University of Washington. Before joining OTI, she was a research assistant at UW Tech Policy Lab and prior to starting her Ph.D., she worked as a researcher at the Transparency and Privacy area of the Colombian think-and-do tank Dejusticia. She holds a dual B.A. in Law and Political Science from Universidad de los Andes (Colombia), and a master’s degree in Administrative Law.
