Paul E. Butler is the President & Chief Transformation Officer, leading New America’s expansion of their impact, and helping to build an organization and society centered on racial equity. He is also focused on strengthening New America’s organizational processes and infrastructure to support continued growth and fulfillment of its mission and long-term vision.
Butler is an expert in business development, strategy and operations, with more than 20 years of experience in the media, entertainment and consulting industries.
Prior to New America, Butler was the COO of sparks & honey, a technology-based cultural consultancy delivering innovative growth and transformation strategy for global organizations.
Butler has spent much of his career working on launching and growing businesses in the media & entertainment sector and has served on a number of non-profit Boards.
Butler was the first General Manager of Aspire, overseeing operations, production, programming, and marketing for the network launched by Earvin “Magic” Johnson which was dedicated to elevating positive images of the next generation of African-Americans.
Butler has held business development roles and business affairs roles at UPTV, Razor & Tie, VH1, and Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment.
Butler has been Board Chair and has spent more than 20 years serving on the board of directors of The Brotherhood Sister Sol, a Black-led social justice organization that educates young people, organizes to advance equity, and trains educators across the country.
Butler holds a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies & Political Science from the University of Rochester.
