Peter Apps was a Future of War fellow at New America. He is a Reuters global affairs columnist. He reported from southern Africa then South Asia before stints in London and Washington D.C. covering emerging markets, global political risk, and defense issues. In 2006, he broke his neck in a minibus smash while covering the Sri Lanka civil war, leaving him largely paralyzed from the shoulders down. Of the more than 20 countries he has reported from, over half have been since the injury. Since 2016, he has been a member of the British Army Reserve and the UK Labour Party. He is also founder and executive director of the Project for Study of the 21st Century, a largely volunteer run think tank examining major issues of the era. He tweets at @Pete_apps
