Rebecca Morales, M. Ed. is the secondary science instructional specialist for Broken Arrow Public Schools in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, which is a #GoOpen Ambassador District. She has been in K-12 education for 18 years. Rebecca is an Open Education Research Fellow researching K-12 teacher and student perceptions of open educational resources. She has published her research titled, “Secondary Students’ Perceptions of Open Science Textbooks”, with former Open Ed Fellow Dr. Alesha Baker, after piloting an initiative to replace the traditional textbook with open textbooks for middle and high school science. She is passionate about professional development in science educators and has served as Principal Investigator of four Mathematics and Science Partnerships with The University of Tulsa and participated in numerous other professional development initiatives for science education and literacy. Rebecca received her B.S. in Secondary Education with a Science emphasis from Oklahoma State University and her M.Ed. in Science Education from Northeastern State University. Rebecca is a 2011 Presidential Awardee for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and formerly a Nationally Board Certified teacher.
