Sara Hudson was a fellow in New America's Public Interest Technology program. She came to New America from the Department of Justice. At DOJ, she partnered with Native American tribes to ensure access to federal information systems to protect tribal members, particularly women and children. She also embedded with the United States Digital Service to reduce recidivism and improve reentry of formerly incarcerated peoples.
Prior to DOJ, she led the migration, redesign, and launch of stjude.org as interim director of external communications and web manager for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She came to D.C. from New Orleans, where she worked at the City of New Orleans' Office of Information Technology and Innovation and the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. She is the creator of NOLA Ready, the first centralized hub for New Orleanians to prepare for, get information about, and stay safe during disasters. A trained emergency manager, she created and led New Orleans disaster communications during hurricanes, flooding, and public safety events.
