Shawn is Senior Research Fellow in New America’s Future Frontlines program and an Assistant Professor of Data & Society in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Arizona State University. His research focuses on mis/disinformation and online resistance circulating in social media during social movements, protests, and elections as well as the related challenges of collecting, analyzing, preserving, and archiving data from social media platforms. He co-hosts a somewhat weekly podcast at the intersection of data and misinformation called Misinformation Weekly. He received his PhD and MS in Information Science from the University of Washington Information School.
