Soren Spicknall

Data Engineering Lead, New Practice Lab.

Soren Spicknall is the Data Engineering Lead at the New Practice Lab, where he works to improve policy design and service delivery in partnership with public benefits providers and their program recipients. He has spent his career in interdisciplinary civic technology and political technology communities, helping scope and execute data-related projects.

Spicknall comes to New America from Jarvus Innovations, a government technology contractor whose mission is to build public-sector capacity through deeply collaborative engagements with customer agencies. Prior to his time at Jarvus, he served as a Senior Data Engineer at The Movement Cooperative, as a Civic Innovation Fellow on the Microsoft Cities Team, and as an independent data projects consultant for civic and nonprofit clients, among other roles. Outside of work, he has advised legislators and administrators on technology policy pro bono and served on the board of Chi Hack Night, a leading volunteer-based civic tech organization.

Spicknall holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He lives in Chicago, where he helps steward a neighborhood arts organization and its associated art gallery.
