Stephanie Baker is a senior policy analyst in the Higher Education program at New America. Her interests include supporting student parents, public benefit access, and college affordability, as well as providing practical tools for college staff to proactively reach students with critical supports. Baker authored a toolkit to help colleges and universities proactively identify students who are likely eligible for SNAP, Medicaid, and other public benefit programs.
Baker is guided by her prior work experience in student affairs case management where she worked to unlock resources for students facing health, financial, and other barriers to completing their education. She's also previously worked for the Maryland Higher Education Commission in a regulatory role focused on consumer protection for students attending private postsecondary vocational schools.
Baker earned her master's degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs at The Ohio State University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland.
