Ariam Mohamed

Senior Director, People and Culture

Ariam Mohamed is New America’s Senior Director of People and Culture. She has 13 years of progressive HR experience in both the nonprofit and corporate sectors, and brings expertise in effectively managing and executing the full range of HR functions.

Prior to joining New America, Mohamed was based in Dubai, where she served as a senior HR business partner for Al-Futtaim Group, an international conglomerate. During her time there, she was a trusted advisor to senior management on all human capital management matters for five automotive brands across three countries. 

The majority of Mohamed’s experience is in the non-profit space, as she previously worked for the German Marshall Fund in Washington, DC, and later the Middle Eastern Broadcasting Network, Inc. (MBN) in Springfield, Va.  Her work at MBN culminated in a role as global senior HR manager that took her from Virginia to Dubai, where she led the HR implementation of the network’s expansion from three to six multimedia news bureaus in the MENA region.

Born in Italy, Mohamed is originally from Eritrea, East Africa. She has lived in various countries around the world and speaks four languages. She is a proud alumna of Howard University, where she received a B.A. in political science with a concentration of international relations. She currently resides in Maryland with her husband and son.
