Chris M. Herbst

Chris M. Herbst is a foundation professor in the School of Public Affairs and a faculty affiliate in the School of Social Work at Arizona State University, a research fellow at the Institute of Labor Economics, and a former George Soros visiting chair in the Department of Public Policy at Central European University.

Herbst’s research focuses on the economics of child care and early childhood education, early human capital formation, and social safety net policy. His research has been published in the Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, and other leading outlets. Herbst’s work has received funding from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Smith Richardson Foundation, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
