Heidi M. Lewis is the Senior Media Relations Manager for New America, serving as an on-the-record spokesperson and primary respondent to media on behalf of New America, working to secure earned media placements across New America’s core policy areas.
Lewis joins New America with nearly two decades of experience in book publishing and author communications, most recently as the Director of Communications and Corporate Events/Sales at Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington, DC—managing internal communications and press credentialing for high-profile author events. While there, she built a new line of event programming to connect authors with corporate audiences for private events.
Prior to that, Lewis was an Associate Director of Publicity at HarperCollins Publishers, focusing on pop culture titles and celebrity memoirs—securing earned media coverage and designing author tour events nationwide. Previously, as a Senior Publicist at Simon & Schuster, she supported non-fiction authors by placing feature stories, securing book reviews and on-air interviews in national, regional, and local media outlets to meet campaign goals.
Creator of a viral media moment that drew attention to the pandemic-era child care crisis, Lewis helped to win paid family and medical leave in the state of Maryland and has testified before Montgomery County Council on the need for improvements to child care accessibility and affordability.
Lewis graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She lives in Silver Spring, MD, with her husband and two children.
