Humaira Rahbin is a former Afghanistan Observatory Scholar at New America. Rahbin currently works as a researcher at the Center for Information Resilience (CIR) on their Afghan Witness project, which is focused on human rights reporting from Afghanistan. Prior to joining CIR, she worked as a consultant for the Zinc Network in the United Kingdom. Previously, Rahbin worked with civil society organizations, the USAID, and the Dutch diplomatic mission in Afghanistan. Rahbin's main area of expertise is research focused on women's studies and migration. She has written academic and non-academic pieces for journals, newspapers, and blogs. Her recent advocacy piece has been featured on the London School of Economics human rights blog.
Rahbin holds an MA in international relations from Kateb University and an MPhil degree in public policy from the University of Cambridge. Rahbin is a Cambridge Trust scholar (through the Rowan Williams Cambridge Studentship) and alumna of Lucy Cavendish College. She is also a member of Chatham House's Common Future Conversations platform.
Rahbin's research project with the Afghanistan Observatory at New America is about the wave of migration of the Afghan people, elites, and former government officials in the last year before the collapse of the former Afghan government in August 2021.
