Kal Raustiala

Kal Raustiala was a fellow in New America’s Cybersecurity Initiative. Raustiala is professor at UCLA School of Law and the UCLA International Institute. Since 2007 he has served as director of the UCLA Ronald W. Burkle Center for International Relations. His research focuses on international law, international relations, and intellectual property and technology. His recent publications include "An Internet Whole and Free: Why Washington Was Right to Give Up Control," Foreign Affairs (March/April 2017) and "Governing the Internet," 110 American Journal of International Law, (July 2016). He is currently a grantee of the Hewlett Foundation Cyber Initiative for a project focused on improving public understanding of cyber threats via popular entertainment. A graduate of Duke University, Raustiala holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, San Diego. In 2016 he was elected vice president of the American Society of International Law.
