Marwa Fatafta is currently the Interim Director of Policy and International Programs at Access Now. She also leads Access Now’s work on digital rights in the Middle East and North Africa region as the MENA Policy and Advocacy Manager. Her work focuses on advancing digital rights and protecting people and communities at risk in the region against censorship, surveillance, and rising digital authoritarianism. She has written extensively on the intersection of technology and human rights in Palestine and the wider MENA region including on content governance, freedom of expression, surveillance, and data protection. Before joining Access Now, she worked as the MENA Regional Advisor at Transparency International Secretariat in Berlin. Marwa was a Fulbright scholar to the US, and holds an MA in International Relations from Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University.
