Deputy Controller

Rachel Browne is the Deputy Controller at New America, where she plays a key leadership role in overseeing financial operations, internal controls, and compliance with accounting standards. With over 12 years of experience in financial management and accounting, Browne specializes in optimizing financial systems, improving financial policies, and implementing process enhancements to support organizational growth.

In her role, Browne assists in managing daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, general ledger reconciliations, payroll, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. She leads financial reporting efforts, ensuring proper revenue recognition, tax compliance, and smooth month-end and year-end closing procedures. Additionally, she collaborates with senior leadership to enhance accounting processes, develop financial policies, and strengthen internal controls for operational efficiency.

Before joining New America, Browne held leadership roles at Marcum LLP (formerly E. Cohen and Company, CPAs), where she managed accounting teams, provided strategic financial guidance, and oversaw compliance with financial regulations. In these roles, she mentored and developed junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Browne also played a key role in scaling teams and financial operations to align with organizational growth objectives. Her expertise includes budget oversight, cash management, financial analysis, tax filings, software implementation, and process improvement.

Browne holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and is passionate about financial stewardship, organizational efficiency, and fostering strong, capable teams that drive success.
