Simon Brown was the Senior Media Relations Manager at New America, overseeing media relations strategy to build awareness of New America’s programs and people.
Prior to New America, Brown spent four years as a strategic communications consultant, developing media strategies and thought leadership profiles for clients in the tech startup and non-profit spaces. Before that, he spent eight years in non-profit communications where his responsibilities included leading media outreach, developing messaging, and conducting media training.
Brown began his communications career in journalism, first covering sports for outlets including Sports Illustrated and NBC, where he won a Sports Emmy for his coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympics. He later reported on state and federal tax policy for a trade publication. Brown earned his B.A. in history with honors from Brandeis University and his master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University. He lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife and daughter, and does his best to keep up with them.
