Valentina Pereda

Research Consultant, NPL

Valentina Pereda is a communications expert and documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles covering security and migration, misinformation in the Latino community, political polarization, and Northern Triangle geopolitics.

She began her career serving in key communications positions in the Obama administration, including the White House. At the White House, she served as Deputy Director of Hispanic Media, overseeing a versatile portfolio that allowed her to work with national and international press. She then became Florida Press Secretary for Hillary Clinton in 2016. In December 2016, Valentina moved to El Salvador to continue a career in videojournalism and documentary filmmaking.

Upon returning to Los Angeles, she began researching misinformation in Spanish-language and Latino spaces, and the lack of regulation protecting Hispanic - and other non-English speaking - consumers. She now consults on how to design communications campaigns that maximize the use of digital outlets like Whatsapp, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and others.

Valentina has an International Relations degree from George Washington University. Recently, she was a 2019 International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) Fellow.
