William Rosenau was a fellow in New America’s International Security program. He is also a senior research scientist at CNA, a nonprofit research and analysis center in Arlington, Va. He previously served as a member of the RAND Corporation’s research staff; as a detailee to the office of the U.S. State Department’s coordinator for counterterrorism; as a legislative assistance for defense and foreign affairs in the U.S. Senate; as a professional staff member on the U.S. Department of Defense Commission on Roles and Missions of the Armed Forces; and as special assistant to the assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low-intensity conflict. He has also worked as an analyst at the National Security Program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
He holds an A.B. in political science from Columbia, an M.A. in history from Magdalene College, Cambridge, and a Ph.D. in war studies from King’s College, London.
His articles on national security, intelligence, and terrorism have appeared in a wide variety of academic journals and other publications, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the National Interest, and Foreign Policy. In June 2019, Simon & Schuster will publish his latest work, Tonight We Bombed the U.S. Capitol: The Explosive Story of May 19th, America’s First Female Terrorist Group.
